The National Hockey League's holiday roster freeze ended at 12:01 a.m. ET and it meant that teams could use the waiver wire again beginning today.
Two teams took the opportunity to place their respective players on waivers on Thursday - Buffalo and Detroit.
According to Chris Johnston of TSN, Buffalo Sabres forward
Tyson Jost and Detroit Red Wings goaltender Michael Hutchinson have been placed on waivers for the purpose of being assigned to the American Hockey League.
"Placed on NHL waivers today: Michael Hutchinson (DET) and Tyson Jost (BUF)." Johnston said.
Jost, a former first-round pick of the Colorado Avalanche, has appeared in 29 games for the Sabres this season, putting up four points (two goals, two assists), eight penalty minutes and is a minus-seven.
Hutchinson, a native of Barrie, Ontario, signed with the Red Wings on December 19th after starting the season with their AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids. In 13 AHL games, Hutchinson has a record of 5-7-1 with a 2.98 goals against average an .895 save percentage and one shutout.
If one or both of Hutchinson and Jost clear waivers on Friday at 2 p.m. ET, they'll be assigned to their respective American Hockey League affiliates.
