Golden Knights' coach rips Robin Lehner's play after loss
The Vegas Golden Knights were hosting the New Jersey Devils in a crucial game on the schedule for the Knights' playoff hopes. The score was 1-1 heading into the 3rd until Andreas Johnsson and Jesper Boqvist scored for New Jersey within the first 10 minutes of the period. Vegas' forward Chandler Stephenson scored his 18th of the year with less than two minutes remaining, but that was all the offensive the Knights could muster in this must win game.
Golden Knights' Head Coach Pete DeBoer was quoted after the game on goalies -
This time of year you are looking for your guy to be better than the guy at the other end, and tonight that wasn't the case.
I'm not sure either goal they scored on is a good chance.
Robin Lehner, was returning from a one-game absence due to a personal matter, stopping 25 of 28 shots. The 30-year-old has gone 2-2-1 with 16 goals allowed in his last five games since returning from a lower-body injury. The Swede is 23-17-2 with a 2.83 GAA and a .907 save percentage.
Lehner was out dueled by Andrew Hammond on the night who made 42 saves on 44 shots.
The Golden Knights have five games remaining on the schedule beginning with a Wednesday matchup against the Washington Capitals. They then play the San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars, Chicago Black Hawks and finish the season against the St. Louis Blues on April 29th.
With the loss the Golden Knights sit three points back of the LA Kings for 3rd in the Pacific and four points back of the Dallas Stars with one more game played for the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
