Hockey Canada at risk of losing federal funding due to sexual assault settlement
It looks like the nightmare surrounding hockey is all but over. Earlier this year in April an agreement was reached regarding a lawsuit surrounding the 2017 world junior team. The lawsuit alleges that 8 members of the gold medal winning world junior team assaulted a young women in their hotel room after a Gala on June 8th, 2018. The matter was ultimately settled out of court, but the story doesn't end there.
According to Rick Westhead of TSN, Canada's Minister of sports is opening a forensic audit of Hockey Canada and will interview executives about the assault.
Something seems fishy here, unlike most cases like this, this one isn't public record. Why? Is Hockey Canada hiding something?
Of note, a few days ago Sheldon Kennedy former NHL player and advocate called on hockey Canada to release the report to the public, similar to the Blackhawks going through the Kyle Beach assault case.
