Yesterday, NHL Insider Frank Seravalli reported that the Blackhawks asking price for Patrick Kane is a first round draft pick, another draft pick, and a highly ranked prospect.

It's a similar return to the one that sent Claude Giroux to Florida, and that trade is reportedly the barometer to Kane's value. Giroux fetched a first round draft pick, a third round draft pick, and Owen Tippett when he was dealt.

That asking price honestly seems fairly low for a forward of Kane's caliber. Already cemented as one of the greatest American players of all time, Kane has been relentlessly consistent in his offensive production. Last year he had 26 goals and 92 points, this year he's at 3 goals and 15 points in 19 games.

Even with an appetite to trade Kane, and with teams willing to acquire him, this trade will be one of the most complex in NHL history. Assuming only cup contenders are interested in trading for him, they'd have to fit in a $10.5M contract into their salary cap, which is seemingly impossible for most teams. If Kane is to be traded, the Blackhawks and a third team would need to retain significant salary to get Kane to a manageable number.

According to other sources at the time, the teams currently interested in acquiring him are the New York Rangers, Washington Capitals, Edmonton Oilers, and Toronto Maple Leafs.
