John Carlson had to have surgery to reattach his ear after being hit by a slap shot
When Brenden Dillon's slapshot hit John Carlson, it was clear that Carlson had suffered a significant injury. The amount of blood on the ice and the pain on his face, made it clear this was an emergency situation. But up until now the details were scarce on the injury he suffered.
The Washington Capitals have made it clear that Carlson will miss significant time and could miss the entire season. In a recent Instagram post, John's wife, Gina revealed the nature of the injury suffered by her husband.
when they told me right away that you walked off the ice a couple weeks ago, and that was a good sign, it didn't make me feel any better bc I know it would take your legs not working for you to not get up.. with your ear back on you came home from the hospital & did it all.
This news certainly explains the length of injury and why it is not expected for Carlson to return anytime soon. This shows just how tough and NHL players are and despite seeing it time and time again, it's still remarkable. Hopefully Carlson can make a full return in the future.
