John Tortorella is one of the most vocal coaches in the NHL. He's never afraid of giving up a sound byte or speaking his mind. That's what makes him so special.

His outtakes range from chastising the NY Post's Larry Brooks to having choice words about his own players from his current Flyers team, which he described as a team without an "identity" to telling Anthony Duclair he "Didn't know how to play hockey".

In a turn of events, John Tortorella will be taking on Sheldon Keefe as the Philadelphia Flyers take on the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In a show of coaching camaraderie, Torts ended up defending Keefe's current stint in Toronto:

You guys don't know what he's done for that team... You guys chuck darts at him because you want some results... He's a terrific coach. I hope he jams it to you all, quite honestly. Not tonight.

Of all the things I expected as a fan whose team was coached by the soundbite machine, this wasn't one of them. Perhaps the years of grilling by the media has turned Tortorella soft.
