Leafs top prospect knocked out cold at development camp

Early this morning, a video surfaced from the Leafs development camp, showing top prospect Roni Hirvonen on the receiving end of a massive hit, leaving him knocked out cold on the ice.

The clip shows Hirvonen laying motionless on the ice in the moments after the hit, a scary sight in any game of hockey.

Hirvonen, 21 years old, was a second round selection of the Maple Leafs in 2020, and has greatly surpassed expectations in his first few seasons in the Finnish Elite League. The prospect who delivered the hit, Nolan Dillingham, is an undrafted defenceman from the Sarnia Sting.

Hirvonen was removed from the scrimmage following the hit, and likely will miss time with a concussion. At this time, we can only wish the best for Hirvonen in his recovery, hopefully in time for next season.

Leafs executive and former player, Haley Wickenheiser, gave a comment to press indicating she thought it was a clean hit, and confirming that Hirvonen will miss time with a concussion.
