The New York Islanders and General manager, Lou Lamoriello have missed out on a few things this off-season. First they were reportedly interested In Johnny Gaudreau, couldn't make it work. Then it was Nazem Kadri, again, isles management missed out because they couldn't move enough pieces and now, one would think the islander brain trust has fractured their relationship with the only superstar they have left. Okay, okay, maybe not, but it certainly doesn't look too good.
Lamoriello has always kept his cards close to his chest when trying to negotiate deals, but according to Andrew Gross of NewsDay.com, the archaic islander GM has flat out refused to comment on wether a new contract is being worked on with superstar soon-to-be RFA, Matthew Barzal.
One can argue that contract discussions, especially so early on should remain private, however to blindly decline to answer of contract negotiations have started is off to say the least. Add in Lamoriello‘S history of struggling to keep or attract star players and you wonder, has the game passed good ole' Lou by?
Let's hope for islander fans he softens on how he does business, but who are we kidding, at this point, they deserve better.
