As the 2022 National Hockey League off-season nears its close, there's one question that remains for the a Toronto Maple Leaf, will Ramus Sandin receive an offer sheet? If he does, will they be able to match? If they cant, what's next?
For arguments sake, let's say a team takes a chance and submits an offer sheet on Sandin, it handcuffs Toronto in a way that would make the most calm General Manager squirm. A team could offer him 4.2 million for next season and the Leafs would only get a 2nd round pick as compensation. That's a pretty low risk gamble for any team given Sandin's ceiling.
However, if the brain trust in Leaf land elect to match any offer that comes through their door, they would most certainly have to offload both Alex Kerfoot and Justin Holl in order to make space for Sandin's new contact. If he pans out and you match the offer sheet, it's worth it, if he doesn't, it's a misguided error for Kyle Dubas and company.
It certainly would make things more interesting in Leaf Land if it happens in the twilight of the off-season. Either way, if they match or they don't, both choices are a double edged sword.
