Marc-Andre Fleury opens up about his terrible start, understands why people are mad
The Minnesota Wild added Marc-Andre Fleury at last year's trade deadline. Bull Guerin hoped his former teammate could give his squad the boost it needed to go on a long playoff run. Unfortunately that run ended after only 6 games against the St. Louis Blues. While Fleury started the series in goal, it was Cam Talbot who finished after Fleury struggled.
Ultimately the Wild opted to stick with Fleury signing him to a 2-year extension. The Wild then traded Cam Talbot to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for
Filip Gustavsson.
The team has not gotten off to the start they'd hoped for, being winless through 3 games.
«Sometimes we play defense like we're a ... junior team. It's the whole team. We've got to sharpen up,» Zuccarello said.
Zuccarello was the first to let the team know how he really feels about their defensive play, and Fleury all the while isn't wholly to blame and has a burden to share in it. Fleury was also very critical of himself, here's what he had to say about about his start:
I'd boo myself, I was not good. I feel bad for the fans. I feel bad for my teammates.
In 2 regular season NHL games, Fleury let in 11 goals on 49 shots, which is troubling for Fleury, as well as Evason.
"Everybody struggled, right? You get seven goals scored on, your team struggles," Wild head coach Dean Evason said. "To pin it on one guy or one guy didn't play well from the goalie out everybody didn't play well, or else we would have not given up seven goals."
Since the game against the Colorado Avalanche, Evason has made the decision to roll with Gustavsson.
Will Fleury be able to rebound and save his spot between the pipes? Only time will tell.
