Marner and Matthews have a chance to do something never done in Leafs history
The Toronto Maple Leafs have a 105-year history, so the idea of two players accomplishing something that's never been is rare. But that's exactly the kind of opportunity both Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews have.
The Maple Leafs have 12-games remaining this season, and if in those 12-games, Auston Matthews is capable of scoring 5-points and Mitch Marner can add 12 of his own, they'll enter the history books. What's so important about those numbers? That would put both of those players at the 100-point mark.
Surprisingly in franchise history the Maple Leafs have only ever had 2 players hit the 100-point mark. Darryl Sittler accomplished the feat in 1975/76 and 1977/78, while Gilmour accomplished it in 1992/93 and 1993/94.
But the team has never had two players reach the 100-point plateau.
So with Matthews nearing in on Rick Vaive's franchise goal-record it will be interesting to see where Marner and Matthews end up in franchise history.
