The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired Matt Murray from the Ottawa Senators on Monday along with a third-round pick in the 2023 draft and a seventh-rounder in 2024 for future considerations.

The gamble to acquire the two-time Stanley Cup winner is a bold one by Leafs' GM Kyle Dubas. The last three seasons have been rough for Murray, due to both poor play and injury. Since joining the Senators in 2020, he appeared in just 47 games over the last two seasons. Recording a 3.38 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage.
Ottawa is picking up 25 per cent of his $6.25-million cap hit through 2023-2024. The cap hit for the Leafs will be $4.69 million AAV for the next two seasons.
Murray was made available to the media on Tuesday.
"I'm extremely motivated," Murray said, "I've got lots to prove."

Murray says the Leafs were his favourite team growing up, same with his dad:
«Putting on that jersey for the first time I think is going to be something real special for me.»

Matt's father Jim passed away in January of 2018, so it's a dream come true for Matt to play for his father's favourite team. A motivated Matt Murray could be an extremely valuable piece for the Maple Leafs.
