In the first two games of the Battle of Alberta, Mike Smith let in multiple horrific goals. Then in the second half of game two and three Smith was lights out against the Calgary Flames. But tonight in game four he let in one of the worst goals of his career.
While the Edmonton Oilers were on the power play, the Oilers lost control of the puck while entering the Calgary zone. Rasmus Andersson just slapped the puck down the ice on net for a clearing attempt. But Mike Smith couldn't track the puck as it flew down towards him. Once he realized it was coming on net it was too late and the puck was in the back of the net.
It was a big blunder that could've been costly for the Oilers as that goal tied the game 3-3. But the Oilers scored a short time later and ended up winning 5-3. They now lead the series 3-1 with a chance to end it in Calgary on Thursday night.
