Milan Lucic potentially being traded to Eastern Conference contender
The trade deadline is fast approaching and while some teams are jockeying for better playoff positions and others are silently making it known they're «all in» for a better draft pick, New York Post sports writer Larry Brooks wonders if current Calgary Flames forward Milan Lucic makes sense for the New York Rangers.
With the departure of Ryan Reaves, it may make sense for the team on Broadway to fill a hole albeit with a player that's probably past his prime.
It is possible that Lucic, who is in the final year of a contract that pays him $6,000,000 has a modified no-trade clause along with a no-move clause built into his deal never felt comfortable after moving on from the Kings in 2015-16.
However, it's more than likely that with the way the game has evolved, Lucic was never able to learn to evolve with it. With numbers on the steady decline since his last season as an Oiler, one may be led to believe that his time in the National Hockey League may be dwindling and that this, in fact, may be his swan song.
If that is the case, it would make sense that he would want to bd traded to a contender like the Rangers. As the March 3rd trade deadline approaches, it's something to keep an eye on.
