NHL Department of Player Safety announces embarrassing suspension for Andrew Mangiapane
To say the NHL Department of Player Safety was inconsistent would be an understatement. The Department led by George Parros has been under constant criticism since he took over. That isn't going to change after tonight's announcement.
Last night when the Calgary Flames faced off against the Seattle Kraken, Andrew Mangiapane of the Flame was ejected from the game. On the play Mangiapane cross checked a downed Jared McCann's face directly into the ice.
Many expected this to be a lengthy suspension but instead today George Parros spun his wheel and came up with this embarrassing announcement.
Calgary's Andrew Mangiapane has been suspended for one game for Cross-checking Seattle's Jared McCann.
This announcement doesn't even align with the Department's own punishments as Jamie Benn was suspended for two games in the Conference Finals for a similar play.
This is another puzzling choice by NHL DoPS.
