NHL Player Safety punishes multiple Maple Leafs' players after last night's game
Last night's game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning got extremely heated. This is something that is uncharacteristic of the Maple Leafs as a team. But head coach Sheldon Keefe challenged his team to up their level of physicality and it appears they have responded.
Today NHL Department of Player Safety has announced they have issued fines to two members of the Maple Leafs. Wayne Simmonds and Kyle Clifford have both received the maximum allowable fines under the NHL collective bargain agreement for their actions last night.
The NHL Department of Player Safety release the following statements:
Toronto's Kyle Clifford has been fined $2,500, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for High-sticking Tampa Bay's Corey Perry.
Toronto's Wayne Simmonds has been fined $2,250, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Charging Tampa Bay's Mikhail Sergachev. It appears that the hate between these teams is already increasing. It will be interesting to see what a playoff matchup between the two looks like.
