Yesterday the Nashville Predators placed Eeli Tolvanen on waivers after the former 1st round pick had become a regular healthy scratch. The Predators drafted Tolvanen in the 1st round of the 2017 NHL Draft. Tolvanen who was once a highly coveted prospect had played 135 NHL games and has 51 points.
Tolvanen still has the offensive abilities to help a team looking for depth scoring and offensive help, but he has not developed the way he was projected.
Today it was announced that the Seattle Kraken had claimed Tolvanen.
Seattle claims Eeli Tolvanen off waivers from Nashville.
Claiming Tolvanen provides the Kraken with a great depth option and for a young team without many options, this adds significant depth at no cost. This still feels like an odd choice that the Predators were unable to find a trade partner and move Tolvanen for at least some asset.
In a corresponding move the Kraken placed Karson Kuhlman on waivers, while the Arizona Coyotes also placed Dysin Mayo on waivers.
Placed on NHL waivers today: Dysin Mayo (ARI) and Karson Kuhlman (SEA).
