New Jersey's Brendan Smith Gets Hearing with DoPS after Brutal Two-handed Slash
Things got chippy between the New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Flyers last night, and it has resulted in at least one summons by the NHL's Department of Player Safety.
Late in the third period, as the two teams were changing following a whistle, the Flyers Travis Konecny gave Brendan Smith of the Devils a shove with his stick. Smith retaliated with a big two-handed swing of his stick.
Player Safety has announced a hearing for Smith today and it's hard to see any scenario where he doesn't end up with a suspension. It's one thing to retaliate. A big, two-handed slash is probably not the way to do it.
New Jersey won the game 4-3 on overtime.
