The Calgary Flames have had one of the busier off-seasons in recent memory losing Johnny Gaudreau to free agency and dealing Matthew Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers in exchange for Jonathan Huberdeau, Mackenzie Weegar among other pieces. After signing Huberdeau to an 8-year deal it appears the Flames have their sights set on Weegar next.
According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, Weegar and the Flames would like to have a contract extension in place shortly, however no deal has been reached as of yet.
Weegar, 28, skated in 80 games with the Florida Panthers last season tallying 8 goals and 36 assists for 44 points while also being a stabilizing presence on the back end.
The deal isn't done yet, but if Flames General Manager Brad Treliving can sign Weegar, that trade is looking better and better by the day.
