Jack Campbell failed to live up to expectations in his first season with the Edmonton Oilers. The 31 year old signed his first big ticket contract of his career, agreeing to a five year, $25M deal.
For the first half of the year, he posted a goals against average of just under 4.00, a save percentage well below .900, and zero shutouts. He ended up with a nice regular season record of 21-9-4 but that doesn't tell the full story. Campbell finished the season with a 3.41 GAA, .888 save percentage and eventually lost the net to rookie goalie Stuart Skinner.
Hopefully none of this will be necessary and Edmonton will get strong play from both Skinner and the veteran Campbell. Campbell showed in small glimpses last season how good he can be when on. He had a nine game winning streak from January to February and was pivotal in a Game 4 victory against the LA Kings in the playoffs.
