Paul Bissonnette makes a prediction on who will be the Maple Leafs next coach and by when
Things are not rosy in Leaf land right now. The team is off to another slow start with a record of 4-4-2 in the first 10 games of the season. There are rumblings that both coach Sheldon Keefe and GM Kyle Dubas are on borrowed time in Toronto.
One name that keeps coming up as a potential replacement is Barry Trotz. Trotz was on the Cam and Strick Podcast last week and dropped a few interesting quotes.
On the potential return to coaching:
"I think No. 1 is, I'm not quite there," Trotz said, "I think probably to get everything settled, I'm going to be into early December before I feel comfortable (that) I've got the family stuff in control and after that I'm probably going to have to take a little break, a week or two, to maybe go somewhere warm in the winter and then after that."
Coaching an original six team intrigues him:
"I don't know if any coach that takes a job in Canada ever wants to deal with it," he said, "Original Six, for me, I have never coached an Original Six team. That would intrigue me. Those teams always intrigue you. But the Canadian teams -- you're under the microscope. You sort of are in New York, too."
"I think it takes a special coach, special player, to play in Canada because there's a different pressure."
Paul Bissonnette one of the co hosts of the Spittin' Chiclets podcast, is never shy to make wild predictions. In this one he predicts Trotz will be the Leafs' coach by the NHL Trade Deadline and will lead the team to a Stanley Cup final.
This seems outlandish, especially with the state of the team currently but in sports things can change on a dime. Change is on the way for this team. This roster can't get it done.
