Phil Kessel on his way to Toronto, reportedly will play on Thursday
Phil Kessel played one shift on Tuesday night against the Detroit Red Wings to keep his ironman streak alive before boarding a plane and heading back to Phoenix to be with his wife for the birth of their first child.
While some had contemplated whether Kessel would make the trek to Toronto after the very special life event, the NHL Network's Craig Morgan has reported that Kessel is on his way to Toronto to be in the lineup for Thursday's game.
After tonight's game at Scotiabank Arena, Kessel will be just 7 games back on Doug Jarvis for 2nd all-time, behind only Keith Yandle. Here's a breakdown of the top-5:
Keith Yandle 978
Doug Jarvis 964
Phil Kessel 956
Gary Unger 914
Patrick Marleau 910
Kessel is having a bit of a down year in the goal scoring department for the lowly Coyotes with just 6 goals 28 assists for 34 points in 56 games. We will continue to see his name in the rumour mill as the March 21st deadline gets closer.
Congrats to the Kessel family on the birth of his daughter.
