Kessel, being 36 years old and primarily lauded for his offensive ability, has seen obvious decline in his game the last few seasons. However, that didn't stop him from contributing to three Stanley Cup victories in his time with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Vegas Golden Knights. Now, two teams are reportedly interested in the famous deadly wrist shot Kessel can still bring.
According to new reports from NHL insider David Pagnotta, two teams are greatly interested in Kessel, and are looking to clear cap space to add him to the roster immediately. This morning, Pagnotta's report read as follows:
Kessel likely could join any team at this point in the season, and likely wouldn't cost much on an expected one-year contract. He also is likely just looking to extend his career, and wouldn't have a preference for a cup contender or a rebuilding team. Despite playing with the Cup champion Golden Knights last year, his previous contract had him on the rebuilding Coyotes for three years previously.
As a fan favourite throughout the league for his equally amazing personality and talent, everyone can hope for success and one more season of Phil the Thrill in the NHL. Keep an eye out for a team making an apparent salary dump, as it may be in accordance with signing Kessel.
