The Philadelphia Flyers have announced today that they have signed goaltender Samuel Ersson to a two-year contract extension. The contract, worth $1.45 million annually, kicks in next season as the 23-year-old from Falun, Sweden is in the last year of his entry-level contract, which pays him $892,500.

Ersson, drafted in the fifth round 143 overall in 2018 has played most of his career in North America with the American Hockey Leagues Lehigh Valley Phantoms. However, in nine games played with the Flyers, he has a 6-3 record with a GAA of 3.07 and an SV percentage of 0.899.
Understanding that this signing looks a little odd, there is speculation that the results from the 2018 Canadian World Junior investigation will be released and a possibility that Flyers Carter Hart could face a suspension if you are reading between the tea leaves of the deal. This could also be a case that's unrelated and the Flyer organization could be ready to just move on from Hart altogether, given his poor performance since being drafted by the Flyers in the second round, forty-eight overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
The Flyers also have 28-year-old Cal Petersen under contract as the 28-year-old signed a three-year deal worth an AAV of $5,000,000 during the offseason after he was involved in a three-team trade which centred around Ivan Provorov who was acquired by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
