The National Hockey League's season is set to begin in just over two months, with training camps opening in the middle of September and there are several big name free agents still on the open market.

Among those prominent names names are Patrick Kane, Matt Dumba, Tomas Tatar, Jonathan Toews, Josh Bailey, among others. But there are several depth players that are still available and one of those is 27-year-old forward Pius Suter.

While Suter could be offered a professional try-out contract and join a team for training camp, as well as pre-season games, there are reports linking Suter to the Calgary Flames.

Suter, a native of Zurich, came over to North America for the shortened 2021 season, where he signed a one-year deal with the Chicago Blackhawks. At the end of his rookie campaign in the NHL, the Blackhawks decided not to issue him a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent.

In 2021, Suter signed a two-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings, where he's spent the past two seasons. In 79 games this past season, he put up 24 points (14 goals, ten assists), six penalty minutes and was a minus-three.
