In hockey, emotions run high all the time, sometimes leading to players taking liberties against their opponents that sometimes result in suspensions, but I don't think I've ever seen an action like this. This is sure to make a lot of people groan.
Recently, in a game between the Dundee Stars and Nottingham Panthers, Panthers forward Didrik Henbrant 'slashed' Stars defender Sean Allen below the belt; take a look.
The slash in question was really a spear after Henbrant was by Allen behind the Stars net. Henbrant was obviously upset after getting hit and decided to put his stick between Allen's legs and spear him.
In all honesty, I'm surprised this was only a one game suspension, but according to the EIHL's explanation, Henbrant has no prior history in the league and therefore, they settled on the one game suspension.
Given the obvious malicious intent behind the 'slash' the Panthers forward is lucky he'll only miss the one game.
