Referees make two mistakes on the same play, force players to stay on the ice while they review it
I'm not sure what anyone was thinking here. Officials from a US College Hockey game are getting roasted online after making two terrible decision on the same play.
In a game between the University of Nebraska-Omaha, and the University of Maryland, a UNO player is hit by a freight train with the clock at exactly 0:00 of the second period. The player is hurt, and scrums break out. Here's the hit:
After this, two very questionable things happen. First off, officials decide to review the play, and ultimately decide on a five minute major, but no game misconduct. That hit was brutal and deserved an ejection. Secondly, because the clock is at zero, the players try to head back to their dressing rooms once the smoke has cleared, but are stopped by the officials and told they need to wait until the play is reviewed. This is not the way it usually happens.
This whole thing was poorly handled from start to finish. Not a good look at all.
