San Jose Sharks former 1st round pick demands a trade, Mike Grier reportedly will oblige
The job of an NHL General Manager is a difficult one. It's more than just signing players and making traded. Being a GM consists of having hard conversations and sometimes making moves that you may not want to make.
That's exactly the situation San Jose Sharks General Manager, Mike Grier is in. Grier was named General Manager this past summer and has largely been formulating his long-term plans for his club. Those long-term plans likely originally included 2018 1st round pick, Ryan Merkley.
That was until Merkley informed the team he was no longer interested in being a member of the organization. Merkley reportedly requested a trade earlier this season and the Sharks are ready to oblige.
Sources say #sjsharks have made 2018 first-round pick D Ryan Merkley available. Merkley recently requested a trade and Sharks are trying to accommodate.
Merkley, 22, has played 39 NHL games and still has waiver eligibility.
Merkley was drafted 21st overall in 2018 but has yet to crack the NHL as a regular. Merkley has had documented attitude issues all the way back to junior hockey and those have appeared to have followed him to the NHL. The talented right shot defenseman could provide a team with a significant asset if they were able to harness his talents.
