The San Jose Sharks have been in salary cap hell with 3 defenceman making at least $7.0 Million per season. The Sharks also haven't been a competitive team, missing the playoffs the last 3 years and are now finally trying to start a rebuild. But with so many players on the team with full No-Movement-Clauses or at least a modified one, the Sharks have 8 of these players currently, it has been difficult. But if one of their big name defenceman can waive their no-trade it would free up a ton of cap space.
It is being reported that the San Jose Sharks and Carolina Hurricanes are closing in on a deal to ship out 37-year-old Brent Burns to Carolina. Burns has 3-years remaining on his contract, with a cap hit of $8.0 Million. However, he would have to waive his no-trade as Carolina is on his no-trade list.
This would free up a lot of cap space for the Sharks so they are going to do whatever they need to push this over the finish line. We will update once all the details are revealed.
