The Buffalo Sabres have struggled mightily in recent memory, but they appear to be trying to correct that through both the draft and the trade market, any avenue, really. In fact, during the National Hockey League Draft that began on July 7th in Montreal the Sabres attempt to acquire Chychrun, but unfortunately, things didn't work out for the Sabres.
According to Darren Dreger of TSN, there had been plenty of speculation that Buffalo had tried to acquire Arizona Coyotes star defender Jakob Chychrun.
Chychrun's name, as mentioned above, has been in trade rumours for some time now, and a trade to the Sabres would've made a lot of sense, considering they more than likely have both the cap space and the capital (whether that be draft picks, prospects or roster players) to acquire a defender like Chychrun.
Buffalo is still a long way from being a competitive team in the Eastern Conference, but at least the acquisition of a young star defender like Chychrun would have provided a starting point for the re-build on the back end.
Now, it is only July 17th, but it appears the price to lure Chychrun away from Arizona was too rich for Buffalo's blood.
