The Tampa Bay Lightning are coming off their first Stanley Cup loss in three years to the Colorado Avalanche, thus putting them in off-season mode. It appears, they're close to re-signing one of their deadline acquisition.
According to TSN's Darren Dreger, the Lighting are closing in on a multi-year extension for trade deadline acquisition, Nick Paul. Paul was traded to Tampa from the Ottawa Senators on March 20th a day before the National Hockey League's trade deadline for forward Mathieu Joseph and a 2024 fourth round pick.
Paul, 27, was a productive member in Tampa when he arrived, scoring 5 goals and 9 assists for 14 points in 21 games. He also added an additional 14 points in 23 playoff games (also 5 goals and 9 assists)
As Dreger points out above, signing Paul to an extension was priority for general manager Julien BriseBios and the rest of the organization.
According to Elliotte Friedman the deal is now done and is at a massive term of 7-years.
Hearing Nick Paul extension in TB will come in at 7 years, at just over a $3M AAV
