The last thing a playoff team wants is to see one of their important players take a tough hit before the Stanley Cup Playoffs even start. There is a tough balance to be found between winning games after locking down a playoff spot and maintaining your teams health. The Pittsburgh Penguins ran into just that situation Friday night and nearly lost an important part of their team.
The Penguins are hoping to take one final run at the Stanley Cup while their core is still together, but they first had to get through this game versus the Columbus Blue Jackets. On the play Blue Jackets' forward Carson Meyer caught Teddy Blueger with a questionable hit along the side boards.
After getting up Blueger would follow Meyer across the ice and broke his stick across Meyer's ribs. A scrum ensued and both players would be awarded penalties for their involvement.
