The Philadelphia Flyers have two finalists in their coaching search
The final two have been found, but the question is who will accept the responsibilities to the dumpster fire?
John Tortorella and Barry Trotz according to Frank Seravalli are the finalists in the search for the next Philadelphia Flyers coach.
The interviewee list is a laundry list of recycled head coaches, including:
According to sources, the Flyers interviewed a list of candidates including but not limited to Mike Vellucci, Jim Montgomery, Rick Tocchet, Jeff Blashill and David Quinn. The Flyers were also believed to have engaged in at least a conversation with recently-departed Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy later last week, though it was unclear whether that constituted an interview' or not. Cassidy is in the mix for other head coaching opportunities.
With Jim Montgomery and Jeff Blashill being tied to other opportunities at the moment and Bruce Cassidy most likely being able to choose his next spot, the Flyers will have a good choice of who their next coach is, but none of them Stanley Cup winners as head coach.
It seems like if I were Chuck Fletcher, I'd go for the boring, safe, and winning trap style of Trotz who has won at least 1 cup in the last 4 years. John Tortorella can instill discipline into the team and has a connection with Scott Hartnell and Cam Atkinson, but if it's Tortorella I'm not sure they're aiming to win a cup.
If this is who Fletcher is betting his job on, I'd want the guy who turned an aging New York Islanders' into a contender.
