The Colorado Avalanche are gearing up for the defence of their Stanley Cup Championship. Part of doing that is signing plug and play guy's to professional tryouts in the hopes that one (or more) earn a contract. That's why the Avs brought in former 3rd overall pick Alex Galchenyuk. Less then 10 days after signing his PTO, Galchenyuk is released, but not for the reason you may think.
According to Peter Baugh of The Athletic, Avalanche coach Jared Bednar, stated Galchenyuk had been injured within the first two weeks or camp, thus making the decision to let him go a must.
the fact that he was injured and will miss a lengthy amount of time was the reason to release him. Although, Bednar added the team may circle back on him when he gets healthy.
Galchenyuk, 28, played in 60 games for the Arizona Coyotes collecting 6 goals and 15 assists for 21 points.
He's never been able to regain the form he captures in his early years with the Montreal Canadiens.
I hope for his sake he's able to come back and play, nobody wants to go out like this.
