Winnipeg Jets star player isn't sure he's willing to return next season
Last season ended poorly for the Winnipeg Jets and there were rumours that multiple players requested to be dealt at the trade deadline. There have been many quotes coming out of Winnipeg and most concerning should be those of their best player Mark Scheifele.
I'd love to be in Winnipeg, but I also have to see where this is all going and what direction this team is going in and I guess we'll see this summer. I'm in the prime of my career. I still have so much to improve on too and I like where my game is at. I like the physical nature that my body is at. I'm only improving, I'm only getting better and I'm only going to be a better player next year than I was this year.
I just have to know where this team is going and what the direction is and what the changes are going to be if any. I have to think about my career and what's going to be best for me. Those are going to betalks with my agents and everyone in my family and stuff like that and figure out what I really want. So, it will be a tough talk tomorrow.
According to Darren Dreger, if the Winnipeg Jets decide to move on from Mark Scheifele, the return for the team's top center will be terrific.
Scheifele who has been a point-per-game player with the Jets, had a 29-goal season, with 41 assists, with a -17 for the 2021-2022 season. Scheifele was out of the lineup since being injured by Ottawa's, Parker Kelly and clearly has had time to think about the situation he's in, given the last two years with Paul Maurice leaving, Patrik Laine being traded, and also being accused of being a locker room cancer, by Laine.
It will be interesting who will make an offer for the Center with a $6.125 million cap hit, with 2 years left on his contract. And given that Pierre Luc-Dubois was a vital piece picked up in the Roslovic-Laine deal, it would make sense that he is the next 1C in Winnipeg, given that he was the 1C in Columbus.
Along with Scheifele's uncertainty, Blake Wheeler and Dave Lowry are disappointed with the loss of contention during the year.
Does it look like Winnipeg is in for a rebuild?
