Don Cherry has officially retired from the media and podcasting, but he still found time on Christmas to send an important message to hockey fans.
Six years ago, Don Cherry was fired by Sportsnet after he went on a rant about Remembrance Day and people not wearing Poppies.
This led to him using the words "you people," which some felt was derogatory. Sportsnet took this very seriously, and Cherry was promptly let go.
To this day, there are fans who feel as though Cherry was unjustly fired. Meanwhile, there are others who are happy that Coach's Corner is a thing of the past.
Whatever the case may be, there is no denying that Cherry is a polarizing figure, even despite just recently retiring from the media.
Don Cherry shoots at Sportsnet
On Christmas, Cherry seemingly took a shot at Sportsnet and his firing with his annual message while carving up a turkey on Christmas.
While wishing his followers a Merry December 25th, he made sure to say "you people" which, given the context, feels like a slight at Sportsnet.
To all you people out there, Merry Christmas.
At the end of the day, Sportsnet and CBC are still dealing with the effects of firing Cherry, as their intermissions have been a hard sell to the average fan.
Some believe TSN remains the gold standard for television, with TNT also proving to be an exceptional alternative in the United States.
Whatever the case may be, Don Cherry will remain someone fans talk and think about. It's just the circle of life in the hockey world.
