Like him or not, there are a lot of words you can use to describe Philadephia Flyers head coach John Tortorella. They usually include words like blunt, irritable, testy, and impatient. However, a new video has shown a side of Tortorella fans rarely get to see.
The Flyers have posted a video showing Tortorella getting a tour of a local animal shelter. While going into one of the rooms, the guide explains that this is the place that would hold "Coffee Cake," a dog that has been there for some time and was obviously familiar to the coach. However, as she explains to Tortorella, Coffee Cake had been adopted. Torts was elated.
Tortorella: "Stop it! Oh my God, when?"
Guide: "Yesterday."
Tortorella: "Oh, that is fantastic! That's great news!"
While Tortorella grinned from ear-to-ear, the guide explained that they were keeping the adoption quiet for now as Coffee Cake had some issues integrating with families in the past. However, the team was really hopeful that the right people for the dog had been found and they weren't expecting him back this time.
Tortorella is the kind of guy who wears his heart on his sleeve. However, the emotions hockey fans usually get to see from him are annoyance and anger. It's great to see the coach so excited about a dog being adopted, and great to see him with that huge smile on his face.
