Hockey player given massive suspension after hit leaves opponent motionless on a stretcher
A player from the Czech Extraliga league, (highest-level ice hockey league in the Czech Republic) defenceman Michal Houdek has gotten himself into some serious trouble after delivering a vicious hit to former teammate Tim Söderlund during a recent game between the Plzen HC and Pardubice HC.
Soderlund was attempting a shot on goal when Houdek comes flying in delivering the massive blow to Soderlund with primary contact appearing to be towards his head. The Plzen HC defenceman laid motionless on the ice and had to be taken off by a stretcher.
The ELH announced that they have suspended Houdek ten games for his illegal check to the head of Soderlund.
Houdek had played the first 34 games of the season for Plen and was playing in just his third game on loan with Pardubice.
This is massive suspension but it absolutely warranted after the hit and the corresponding injury. There's no place in the game of hockey for a hit like this and harsh suspensions are the only way to get hits like this out of the game
