It's no secret the Toronto Maple Leads need to do something to get ready for the playoffs, at times this season it's barely looked like they'd be able to make it there. However, it appears as of general manager Brad Treliving won't just give up his first round for a rental player.
According to the 32 Thoughts Podcast, it was mentioned that Treliving wouldn't give up the Maple Leafs first round pick for a rental, but that it would most likely have to be include more and not just be a 1st for a player that's going to go into free agency in the off-season; take a look.
I think this would be the right approach, Leaf fans have seen too many times in recent years what giving up significant draft capital for rentals does. If Treliving has made one thing clear, it's that he will not make a reactionary move.
This also doesn't mean a deal won't get done to improve the team, just that first round picks will be harder to get from the Leafs moving forward, which is likely a good thing.
