When the NHL season began, the Carolina Hurricanes were considered to be a Stanley Cup favorite. Fast forward to today and the Hurricanes sit forth overall in the Eastern Conference. While this might seem like a positive, it is far from it.
The Hurricanes were considered a heavy favorite, but all season have struggled in goal. From injury issues to both Frederik Andersen and Antti Raanta, to the struggles of top prospect Pyotr Kochetkov. With one of the best built defenses in the NHL, the Canes have been held back by their goaltending.
Now it appears the Hurricanes plan on turning to the trade market to try and address these major issues. According to David Pagnotta the Hurricanes have turned their attention to trying to acquire veteran goalie, Jacob Markstrom.
Despite the Flames struggles this year, Markstrom has been a serious bright spot. Markstrom is currently posting a 2.54 goals against average and a save percentage of .914, both numbers which would be a significant improvement for the Canes.
With the NHL trade deadline set for March 8th, it's only a matter of time before trade talks truly heat up.
