Max Chambers is promising a new hockey league for North America, Major League Hockey (MLH), but his past suggests a history of not delivering on claims
The website says a new hockey league is coming to North America as early as this fall, with plenty of money behind it to sign some known names. However, a report from The Grand Forks Herald says the man as history of making claims regarding hockey that never came to fruition.
Max Chambers has a website for Major League Hockey, or MLH, promising a new era for the sport to start in the fall of this year. The site states the MLH would be a 3-on-3 league, and is currently targeting teams in 16 cities in the United States and Canada.
"Experience the thrill of each game night, consisting of two 24-minute games with a short intermission between games. The best part? Games with fan-friendly admission prices will be played exclusively on Friday and Saturday nights."
But the report from the Grand Forks Herald says Chambers has been talking about owning hockey teams for a while, and has a past of disappearing when it comes time to shell out the money.
"Chambers has come forward several times as a prospective buyer of hockey teams two minor league teams in Florida, the St. Louis Blues and Phoenix Coyotes of the NHL, and the Victoria Grizzlies of the British Columbia Hockey League.
Every time, Chambers eventually fades away without a sale and without proof he even has any significant financial means. He lies low for a couple of years, then pops back up again."
Despite that, Chambers has reportedly offered players and coaches six-figure salaries to come work for MLH, with claims of having $10 billion invested into a bank account to cover the first five years of operation.
"Chambers has connected with people from junior hockey to the NCAA to NHL front-office personnel and even one former prominent NHL general manager.
He's contacted players, too, some of whom have considered passing on other pro opportunities."
Chambers recently managed to get himself in a Youtube video hosted by well-known name Steve "Dangle" Glynn to talk about his plans. Glynn deleted the video not long after as he received further information, and has commented on the new report saying he acknowledges the video was a mistake.
