Massive Moldovan born defender takes major step towards the NHL
NCAA Hockey at Penn State is set to be injected with some serious size after Moldovan born, defenseman Alexander Karmanov committed to their University. Standing 6'11, and weighing over 251 lbs, Karmanov is already an imposing figure on the ice, at the young age of 16, still has lots of room to continue to grow into his body.
Karmanov played with three different leagues last season, (two U16 and one U18) scoring two goals and 9 points in 25 games.
Karmanov is draft-eligible for the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, where he will have the potential to become the first ever Moldovan in the NHL.
If Karmanov plays NHL games during his career, he will overtake Stanley Cup champion Zdeno Chára as the tallest ever player. Standing at 6'9, Chara holds the record for the tallest person ever to play in the NHL.
