NHL Department of Player Safety announces multi-game suspension for Matt Rempe
Earliet today, the NHL's Department of Player Safety announced that New York Rangers rookie forward Matt Rempe would be forced to attend a phone hearing after his Monday night elbow on Jonas Siegenthaler.
"NY Rangers' Matt Rempe will have a hearing today for elbowing New Jersey's Jonas Siegenthaler." Player Safety said.
The play happened with just 30 seconds remaining in the 2nd period, when Rempe attempted to deliver a hit on Devils defenceman Siegenthaler. But as Siegenthaler slows up, Rempe raises an elbow striking him in the face.
Rempe received a 5 minute major and a game misconduct for elbowing. Despite having 3 questionable hits in his first month, Rempe has never been suspended and is not considered a repeat offender. The phone hearing ensured that the suspension would be under 5 games.
Now the NHL Department of Player Safety has officially announced Rempe's suspension.
NY Rangers' Matt Rempe has been suspended for four games for elbowing New Jersey's Jonas Siegenthaler.
The question remains, did the league get this right?
