Sharks captain Logan Couture gives an all-time quote when asked about trade deadline
It's been a season to forget for the San Jose Sharks and their captain Logan Couture, who has only played six games during the 2023-24 campaign and will miss the remainder of the year with a hip/groin injury.
Prior to Friday's trade deadline, Couture expressed his desire to remain with the San Jose Sharks and in an interview with NHL.com, gave an all-time quote saying that no team looking for a forward would want him, citing his salary, age and only playing six games this season as reasons why.
"I'm realistic. I'm not sure who's going to trade for a guy who's 35, makes $8 million, and plays six games in a season," Couture said. "You're not going to find any takers out there."
He added, "I'm trying to get healthy, I'm trying to live a normal life away from hockey, and then once I start to feel better and get back to playing the game of hockey, we'll go from there."
Couture, 34, has spent his entire 15-year career in the National Hockey League with the San Jose Sharks, who selected him ninth overall in 2007. His 701 points as a Shark are third in franchise history, only behind Patrick Marleau, Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski.
This summer, as the Sharks look to take the next step in their rebuild, they could look to move on from Logan Couture, who has three years left on his contract with a cap hit of $8 million and a modified no-trade clause. If he can prove that he's healthy enough to return and contribute at the NHL level, there could be plenty of interest, especially if the Sharks, or a third team, get involved with salary retention.
