Paul Maurice gives hilarious response to Jacob Trouba's fine
Earlier today the NHL DOPS announced a $5000 fine for Jacob Trouba for elbowing Evan Rodrigues, Panthers coach Paul Maurice has responded.
Earlier today NHL Department of Players Safety Head George Parros announced that the league had made the decision to fine Jacob Trouba for his game 3 elbow Evan Rodrigues. The league announced Trouba would be fine $5,000 for his actions but would not miss any games.
NY Rangers' Jacob Trouba has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for elbowing Florida's Evan Rodrigues.
As is always the case the league doesn't punish players based off intent and instead only looks at the direct result of the play.
Last night after the game Florida Panthers head coach Paul Maurice was asked about the elbow and at the time he decided to avoid any fine and kept his mouth shut. Today after the punishment was announced, Maurice was once again asked about the play and the fine. In typical Paul Maurice fashion, he gave one of the quotes of the Year.
Maurice, as always, getting some laughs in today's media availability this morning.
On Trouba's $5,000 fine for last night's elbow:
«Take the hat, pass it around. Poor lad. Poor Jake. He won't be able to eat.»
This appears to be another example of the NHL and their officials not trying to impact the outcome of games. However, their failure to protect players is ultimately just going to lead to someone's suffering a more substantial injury down the road. Trouba at this point is considered repeat offender and no longer deserves the benefit of the doubt..
