During the Ottawa Senators-Chicago Blackhawks game today, there was a freak accident.
Blackhawks' Boris Katchouk was trying to sneak a short side shot on net, but he missed the net completely. The puck unfortunately nailed referee Furman South right in the face, which left him bleeding on the ice.
MacKenzie Entwistle of the Blackhawks called for a trainer immediately. It looks like the puck struck him on the right side of the face and the visor was pushed in, as he was left with blood on his forehead.
Luckily, medical staff was able respond immediately. The game continued with one referee and two linesmen, most likely for the remainder of the afternoon as we await an update on how he's doing.
Chicago is having a «Best Day Ever» promotion, and it certainly isn't Furman's best day ever. That's a tough break for South, and we send him the best and hopes he can return to the ice soon.
