Referee falls for one of the most embarrassing dives you'll ever see
Diving has become a real issue in the NHL. The urge to embellish for a lot of players has become to strong and referees allowing this behavior has just led to more occurences. However last night we may have been witness to one of the worst dives in NHL history.
During the 1st period of last night's game between the LA Kings and Edmonton Oilers Viktor Arvidsson embellished at a level rarely seen. In fact in the play Arvidsson launching himself through the air on the play resulted in him temporarily leaving the game with an injury. On the play Arvidsson comes in a slight contact with Darnell Nurse and at that point Arvidsson goes airborne. LA Kings Drew Doughty immediately throws his hand up in search of a penalty, to which the referees immediately blow dead.
Initially the referees called Nurse for a 5 minute major for kneeing, but after reviewing the play the officials downgraded Nurse's penalty to a minor for tripping. On the play Arvidsson also received a minor for shooting a player's stick, but not for the embellishment on the play.
The crew at Spittin' Chiclets said it best when they said:
Should Arvidsson face a fine for embellishment?
