Both the Ottawa Senators and St. Louis Blues missed the playoffs last year and are looking for a change of fortune this year. After a relatively quiet first day of free agency, the Blues and Senators have turned to each other as trade partners.
Today Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, shared that the Ottawa Senators are reportedly trading Mathieu Joseph to the Blues.
The Senators had reportedly been trying to trade Joseph to clear up cap space and had previously been linked to Seattle Kraken's Brandon Tanev as a possible trade candidate. Last season in 72 games, Joseph scored 11 goals an added 24 assists for the Senators.
Update: The Senators are paying to have Joseph off their cap according to Chris Johnston.
Clears salary in Ottawa as Joseph had two more years under contract at a $2.95M AAV.
