When news broke on Friday night that Calgary Flames' defender Nikita Zadorov had requested a trade there was an immediate connection to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Zadorov has a preexisting relationship with General Manager Brad Treliving and is exactly the type of player the Leafs need. Multiple rumors continue to report that the Leafs continue to have the strongest offer for the defender.
However, as soon as the trade request went public it immediately forced Flames GM, Craig Conroy to pivot. While Zadorov welcomes a trade, the Flames intend to complete this transaction at their own pace.
