When news broke on Friday night that Calgary Flames' defender Nikita Zadorov had requested a trade there was an immediate connection to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Zadorov has a preexisting relationship with General Manager Brad Treliving and is exactly the type of player the Leafs need. Multiple rumors continue to report that the Leafs continue to have the strongest offer for the defender.

However, as soon as the trade request went public it immediately forced Flames GM, Craig Conroy to pivot. While Zadorov welcomes a trade, the Flames intend to complete this transaction at their own pace. As rumors swirl fans have begun to wonder what sort of pieces could be included in a potential trade.

Today, Flames Insider Eric Francis brought forward an interesting name that could potentially be involved in trade talks.

As the hockey world tries to piece together various pieces that could make a Leafs trade for a Flames defenceman possible, consider the fact Toronto farmhand Nick Abruzzese was Matt Coronato's setup man at Harvard two seasons ago.
The Leafs 4th rounder was just named AHL player of the week w 2g and 5a in 3 games.

With the Flames season very close to going completely off the rails it will be very interesting to see how they approach this Trade Deadline. Will they look to move multiple pieces early? Or will they hold on and try to maximize returns in March?
