NHL Department of Player Safety makes decision on whether or not Charlie McAvoy will face a hearing
On Tuesday morning, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety has announced that Boston Bruins defenceman Charlie McAvoy will have a hearing for an illegal check to the head of Florida Panther defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson.
"Boston's Charlie McAvoy will have a hearing today for an Illegal Check to the Head/Interference on Florida's Oliver Ekman-Larsson." The Department of Player Safety said in a post on X.
Nearly half-way through the third period, Boston Bruins defenceman Charlie McAvoy was given a match penalty after coming in to the Panthers zone and catching Ekman-Larsson in the head with his shoulder.
Ekman-Larsson fell to the ice, but was able to get up under his own power and make his way back to the Panthers bench. Ekman-Larsson was talking and appeared fine, according to Head Coach Paul Maurice, before being pulled for the remainder of the game.
With Rasmus Andersson's hit on Patrik Laine given a four-game suspension, it wouldn't be shocking to see Charlie McAvoy handed a suspension of similar length.
